Tancowny – On Tuesday, December 7, 2021—at the age of 69—our mom, Mary, reunited with our dad, Clarence. Mary was born on February 18, 1952, to Herman and Tina Dyck in Rabbit Lake, SK, as the youngest of six children. Her father worked for CN Rail, so her early years were spent along the rail tracks in several small Saskatchewan towns. When she was only 16, she headed out on her own, living in Weyburn, SK, for a while before coming to Brooks in 1968. That is where she met our father, and a grand love story began. Mary and Clarence enjoyed 49 years together, raised four children, doted on 12 grandchildren, and Mary got to enjoy three great-grandchildren. Mary worked various jobs while we were growing up, including at SPEC, teaching Drivers’ Ed and at the college, Trican, and STEP. She was also one of the original Volunteer Probation Officers when it started in 1982, and she did this job until 2016. The job she enjoyed most was raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved hockey and tried to make it to as many of her kids’ and grandkids’ games as possible—even if she had to drive hundreds of kilometers to see them play. The Bandits were her favorite hockey team, and she enjoyed going to their games with granddaughter Grace and son Clint. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; grandson Brandon; parents, Herman and Tina Dyck; brothers, Earl, Eldon and Ed; brother-in-law Neil Cooley; her in-laws, Paul and Helen Tancowny, Doreen and Frank Deneve, Delores Switlyk, and Dennis Tancowny. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Tina (Barry Preston) and their children, Kaitlyn (Danny Larson), Brody (Molly) and baby Jack, and Rachele (Tyler Steel); son Clint (Kris) and their children, Sydney (Eric Jensen) and Grace; son Blain and his children Dade, Raiden, Jade, and Daymond; son Roland (Carie-Lynne) and their children, Houston (Katie) and little Bentley and baby Bella, and Branson (Dani Krywulak); her siblings Diana Cooley and Larry (Carol) Dyck; sisters-in-law, Diane Dyck, Anna Dyck, and Carole Dyck; brother-in-law Ron (Diane) Tancowny and sisters-in-law, Diane Gilbert and Barb Tancowny; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as all the ‘kids’ she picked up along the way. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Private Family Funeral was held on Monday, December 13th, 2021 at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church and live streamed via Smith Funeral Home Website. Pastor Maggie Theiss officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
