Senior Girls earn second at Strathmore tournament

The Brooks Junior High School Roadrunners senior girls volleyball were fast on their feet to grab second place at the Crowther Memorial Junior High School tournament in Strathmore on Sept. 28.
The Roadrunners won two games against Canmore, 25-15 and 25-9 before facing Chestermere where they won their first game 25-23 but lost their second one 22-25.
The team’s final round robin game was against Okotoks which was split with a 25-13 win for Brooks and a loss of 22-25 to put the team into second place in their pool.
As a result they faced third place Strathmore winning 25-9 and 25-14.
The momentum was carried into two successful matches in the semifinals against Linden’s Dr. Elliott School, 25-11 and 25-9 to reach the finals against Okotoks.
Brooks took the first set 25-22, lost the second set 25-20 and the final set, 11-15.
Team co-coach Desirae Davidson said she and co-coach Lawrence Bremner were happy with the way the team fought and came together.
“It was truly a whole team effort,” Davidson said.
On Oct. 13 the team will host a boys and girls senior tournament.
The girls will play at JBS Canada Centre and the boys will play at BJHS.
Games begin at 9 a.m.
