Last Tuesday while wearing his Brooks Bandits tie, Shields’s gave a Members Statement in the House of Commons which honoured the team and invited everyone to the region in 2019 for the Canadian Jr. A Championship.
He said while the NHL is just beginning Junior A hockey teams across the country have been playing for weeks.
“It has 128 teams from coast to coast. It is the toughest league to win a championship in,” he said.
“Five years ago, the Brooks Bandits won the championship. In the past five years, they have been to the championship three times.
In 2019, the County of Newell and the City of Brooks are hosting the Canadian Junior A Championship. We welcome everyone to our community to cheer. Go, Bandits, go!”
