Comment lands MLA in hot water
Controversy is surrounding Strathmore-Brooks MLA Derek Fildebrandt for comments he posted on social media which resulted in his suspension from the Wildrose caucus. He will sit as an Independent member. The problems started on Thursday when a Brooks constituent posted a comment on the MLA’s Facebook page that were “unacceptable,” stated party leader Brian Jean in a news release on Friday. “This evening, Mr. Fildebrandt made an unacceptable comment on social media that does not represent the values of the Wildrose Caucus.

Packed park for Bombers opener
The wait was over Sunday evening as the Brooks Bombers took to the field for their inaugural Western Major Baseball League game. The evening began in front of a packed ballpark with presentations by team president Jason Thomasen and general manager Doug Jones. This was followed by opening pitches by representatives of the five founding fathers: Shortgrass Eco Systems & Martin Enterprises, Lutes Timber Mart, Smith Group Holdings, Stream Flo Industries, the Brooks Elks Club #77 and the Brooks Kinsmen Club.

Reporter gains new respect for school bus drivers
If you think driving a school bus is easy–think again. Driving a school bus is no easy task as this reporter found out last Wednesday at a Grasslands Regional Division bus rodeo. This was the first ever bus rodeo held by the division. It is being considered as an annual event, said transportation supervisor Bill Best. Drivers spent the morning maneuvering their buses through a course designed to test their skills.
