Duchess honours Rolling Hills during 5th annual event
Duchess community hall was transformed into Rolling Hills on Friday during the fifth annual Newell Regional Expo Honour a Community event. Over 180 people from across the county and a couple from Lethbridge attended the event. Throughout the evening Duchess focused on the exceptional volunteerism in the county’s Banana Belt – as it was coined at the hamlet’s 25th anniversary.

Wardlow trick rider wins first place at Australia
Wardlow’s Shelby Pierson recently returned home from Australia with a new saddle after winning the country’s Open Trick Riding senior division championship. The 15-year-old member of the Canadian Trick Riding Association was joined in Australia by 11-year-old Avery Aleman of Strathmore and 10-year-old Cora Croteau of Sundre. The trio, along with five-year-old Piper Yule of Wardlow who did not compete in Australia, won their respective divisions at the Canadian Trick Riding Finals last fall. This qualified them for the Canadian Trick Riding Association’s first ever Team Canada.

Saints win AJHL Gas Drive crown
They forced a sixth game in the Gas Drive AJHL championship but in the end, the Brooks Bandits came up just short. Spruce Grove Saints won the Alberta Junior Hockey League championship with a 2-1 overtime victory in front of 2,032 spectators at the CRA Sunday night. With the win, the Saints will represent the league in the Western Canada Cup in Ft. McMurray.
