High school hosts speaker
Greg Drew has lived through every parent’s worst nightmare — a telephone call that his son had been in a serious car crash. Greg’s son Jay survived the accident and while waiting for surgery he promised his dad he would go with him and speak to kids about the consequences of speeding and street racing. “Jay didn’t get that chance; he later died in hospital as a result of his injuries on May 14, 2003. He was 17,” said Drew.

St. Joseph’s dinner theatre brings Sherlock to Brooks
Tapping into a popular icon of the stage and screen, St. Joseph Collegiate’s production of Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure at Sir Arthur Sullivan’s goes Thursday as a dinner theatre presentation. Director Pam Hauser says tickets are still available for the evening. Hauser says the play is a pretty straightforward affair. “Holmes and Watson meet a friend of the composer Sir Arthur Sullivan outside the Opera House and are invited to recount some of their adventures on stage at a charity gala. The two stories that they choose to perform are Conan Doyle’s A Scandal in Bohemia and Charles Augustus Milverton,” says Hauser.

Provincial football champions
St. Joseph’s Crusaders are Alberta Six Man provincial football champions. The team turned in a dominating performance Friday in Edmonton to defeat the Rimbey Spartans 46-28. The win marks the first provincial championship for the school. “It’s a very special feeling. It is hard to believe that we just started the program five years ago and we were able to be the best team in the province Friday,” said head coach Julian Annicchiarico. He said the biggest thing is most of the players on the team are new to the country and two years ago didn’t even know what a football was. They are soccer and basketball players.
