Suffield elk tag program will likely increase in 2015
It’s likely next year’s elk hunt on Canadian Forces Base Suffield will see more than the allotted 660 tags that were issued this year. The 7,000 estimated elk are a problem for 48 neighbouring landowners and the base itself, destroying fencing and crops.

Lady Roadrunners repeat as zone volleyball champions
Brooks Junior High School Sr. Girl Roadrunners claimed the south central 4J zone volleyball championship Nov. 8 The championship was hosted by BJHS and involved teams from Canmore, Crowther Memorial Junior High School (Strathmore), Okotoks Junior High School, John Paul II (Okotoks) Red Deer Lake, Olds and the Roadrunners.

Skeleton champ needs community support
Former Brooks resident Madison Charney recently won the Canadian women’s skeleton championship. The 20-year-old, competing in her fifth season in the sport, guided her way through heavy snow on the Calgary track to win her first national title. She finished with a two-run time of 2:07.42. She sat fourth after her opening run down the 1,430 metre track in Calgary but got off to a great start of 5.60 seconds in her second run that helped move her up three spots onto the top of the podium. She edged out first-run leader Lanette Prediger of Calgary who finished with a time of 2:07.46.
