Fire in EID yard
Tilley and Brooks firefighters were called to a grass fire in an Eastern Irrigation District yard site east of the Rolling Hills highway. The fire was caused by a torch at about 3:10 p.m. last Tuesday. “Dispatch confirmed this was an accidental grass fire started from a welder’s spark,” said Tilley fire chief Patrick Fabian.

Bandits take 2-0 series lead in AJHL final
Brooks Bandits could be heading to the Western Canada Cup in Penticton should they complete a sweep of the North Division AJHL champion Whitecourt Wolverines. The defending Alberta Junior Hockey League champions entered game three in Whitecourt Monday night of the best-of-seven series holding a 2-0 lead. Game four will be played Tuesday night. Much like the South final against Okotoks where the Bandits struck for nine goals, the Wolverines also had no answer in game one of the final against the Bandits. They also surrendered nine goals, losing 9-1 Friday night.

Uplands School holds grade five Heritage Fair
Uplands School held its second annual Heritage Fair for grade five students last Wednesday. The event is put on by Canada’s History Society and is open to any schools across Canada. First place winners were Connor Materi and Parker Forrest for their project on the history of the Canadian flag. Second place went to Gracie McColl for her project on the history of the fur trade. Third place went out to Hasset Mekuria, Skylar Tong and Claire Knutson.
