Skateboarders hit the hot concrete in B-Town Throw Down
It was a hot day on the concrete but that didn’t stop the 50 athletes from participating in the B-Town Throw Down skateboarding competition in Brooks on Sunday. Skateboarders travelled from throughout the province including Calgary, Wetaskiwin, Redcliff, Okotoks, Medicine Hat as well as local athletes from Brooks and Tilley. “The skateboard competition was a resounding success,” said Tara Neifer, owner of 42nd Street and event sponsor.

Forty-four year teaching career ends for Pat Fukuda
A 44 year teaching career came to an end Friday with the retirement of Pat Fukuda. The Brooks native was honored along with other retiring teachers in the Grasslands Regional Division earlier this month. She was born in the old Brooks hospital in 1949 and went to grade one in Brooks. Her family moved to the Patricia area the following year and she took grades two to eight at Haddington School. Grades nine to 12 were at Duchess.

FCA cowboys give all at Bassano rodeo
Foothills Cowboy Association competitors were on hand for two performances of the Bassano amateur rodeo this past weekend. Results in ladies barrel racing had Stacey Ruzicka placing first with a time of 15.478 seconds. She was followed by Dixie Edge with a time of 15.653 and Ashley Nelson with a time of 15.673 seconds. In junior barrel racing, Alexi Oborne placed first with a time of 15.745 seconds. Reese Pollitt placed second with a time of 15.828 seconds and Madyson Hagen finished in third spot with a time of 15.932 seconds.
