Parliament Hill attack ‘unbelievable’
October 2014 will be a month Canadians won’t forget including Medicine Hat MP LaVar Payne. The MP was at the Parliament buildings on Oct. 22 where he was just “a few feet away from where the shooting went down.” At 9:52 a.m. while standing guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National Memorial in Ottawa, reservist Corporal Nathan Cirillo, 24, was gunned down by a man identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32.

Support opened door for diplomatic career
Community support led in part to former Brooks resident and BCHS graduate Paul Pryce pursuing a diplomatic career. It all began for him in 2004 when he was one of six students chosen to attend a Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. He was in grade 12.

Brooks girls chosen for TV appearance
Members of the Gold Medal Seeds Atom Prairie Thunder girls hockey team will be making two appearances on Hockey Night in Canada in December. The girls gathered at the Centennial Regional Arena last Thursday to record their NHL pre-game announcements that can be seen on CBC Dec. 20 and Dec. 27.
