Scandia’s EID Historical Park will open for Earl Taylor Day
Volunteer help combined with assistance from the County of Newell staff has resulted in the go-ahead for the annual Earl Taylor Day at Scandia’s EID Historical Park. High winds on July 15 caused extensive damage throughout the 17 acre park including toppling trees, smashing windows and moving a building. The following day park board chairperson Rosalind VanHal closed the park because of the damages and unsafe conditions.

Drillers win provincial silver
Brooks Jr. B Drillers came away with provincial silver lacrosse medals Sunday at the Centennial Regional Arena. The Drillers placed second in the four-team tournament when they were downed 18-5 by the High River Heat. The Heat entered the tournament with an undefeated record and rolled over the three other provincial teams this past weekend. For the Drillers, earning a medal was a perfect way to celebrate returning to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League after a two year absence.

Brooks continues to impress CIB judges
The City of Brooks continues to impress national Communities in Bloom judges as stated by an enthusiastic returnee Richard Daigneault. “It’s a real pleasure to be back here. It’s only been two years but I come back with very fond memories of my first visit. Today reminded me of what a great community you guys have,” the Ottawa judge told the Brooks Communities in Bloom banquet attendees on Monday following a day of touring and judging. “We saw some wonderful things. A lot of progress.”
