Damage to school lights

Police report that an unidentified person is shown on video kicking the lights at Holy Family Academy at 10:55 a.m. on April 14.

SK. cellphone theft believed link to Brooks
Theft of cellphones last month in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba are likely linked to similar thefts in Brooks and Medicine Hat.
Portage la Prairie RCMP reported that on March 9 at about 9:30 p.m. about 60 Apple iPhones, valued at $70,000 were stolen from a business on Sissons Drive.
It was reported to police that two adult males and a female went to the electronics department in the store.
The female distracted the employee while the males broke into the locked cabinet and stole the phones.
Police say the incident occurred within minutes and was not discovered until the following morning.
Portage la Prairie RCMP believe the incident is related to similar thefts that have taken place in the last month in Swift Current, SK, Medicine Hat and on Feb. 29 in Brooks.
Two males were caught on camera after the theft of a dozen Apple watches from Walmart in Brooks but it wasn’t reported to police until March 4.
Truck stolen
A vehicle that was stolen from a feedlot near Bassano on April 18 was found in Brooks the following day.
Police were on patrol when they located and stopped the vehicle on Second Ave West in Brooks.
The 23-year-old Brooks driver, who has not been identified, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was released and is to appear in court on June 5.
B&E
Brooks RCMP charged a woman who was hiding inside a home where a break and enter had been reported.
On April 18 at 9:18 p.m. police responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on 2nd Ave West and found a back window had been smashed.
“Members arrested a female hiding in the residence,” states a press release.
The unidentified woman was charged with break and enter with intent and mischief under $5,000.
She was held for a hearing.
Vehicle fire
Shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday Bassano firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the eastbound lane on Highway 1.
Cory Cochrane, Bassano fire chief, said the incident occured near Range Road 17-2.
“The vehicle was driving on the rim and the sparks caused it to ignite,” he said.
