    Yarrow – Joseph Gerald Yarrow of Brooks, beloved husband of Delma Yarrow, passed away in Brooks on Wednesday, January 4th, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Joe was born May 8, 1940 in Selkirk, MB. to Peter and Sylvia Yarrow and moved to Calgary at age two. He grew up in Calgary and worked at Shopeasy and Jenkins Groceteria from 1954 to late 1960’s and moved to Brooks in 1961 to work at Jenkins and Tomboy. Joe left the grocery business in 1967 and worked various jobs and returned to the grocery business until 1978. Joe went to work for Pan Canadian Petroleum in November of 1978, until retirement after 26 years.

    He later worked in the water department at Freson Bros. until ill health forced him to give it up. Joe was very “community minded” he was Citizen of the Year 2009, Parade Marshall in 2013, member of the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department for 53 years, member of the Elks Club # 77, Brooks Royal Canadian Legion #63 and donated 450 units of blood. Joe’s favorite nicknames were “Super Uke” and “People’s Choice”. Joe was an avid sports fan in his younger years. He played and coached hockey, played football, horseshoes, fastball, slow pitch and bowling. Joe also loved to travel to B.C. and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was predeceased by parents Peter and Sylvia Yarrow, 3 brothers-in-law and a niece. Joe is survived by wife Delma of 50 years; daughter Dawn; son Thomas Joseph (Lori); grandchildren Brianna, Devon and Garrett; brothers Dennis (Louise) of Calgary and David (Sheila) of Vancouver; sisters Mary Lynne Molnar, Diann Pepin and Sharleen McMillan all of Calgary and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev, John Theiss officiating. Cremation is entrusted to Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematorium, Brooks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dan and Rose Lovsin, Kevin and Judy Swanson, Alan Efetha and wife Carina Weisbach and Bernice MacKenzie. Active Pallbearers will be members of the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department.
