WYLIE – Stephen John Wylie was born to Lionel and Louise Wylie at Hardisty, Alberta on September 10, 1970 and passed away at Brooks, Alberta on April 4, 2008 at the age of 37 years. Funeral service was held on Saturday, April 12, 2008, Sedgewick Church of the Nazarene at 2 pm. Interment in the Sedgewick Cemetery.

Steve grew up on a farm south of Lougheed. He attended elementary school at Lougheed, taking his high school at Central High in Sedgewick. He later enrolled in Olds College and then went to the University of Alberta in Edmonton where he graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He was initially employed at the County of Flagstaff in Sedgewick, followed by the County of Leduc. For the past twelve years, he worked for the County of Newell in Brooks as Agricultural Fieldman, and most recently as Superintendent of Public Works.

In 1998, he married Donna, and they were blessed with three children: Kyle Daniel (8), Taylor Lia (6) and Brent Michael (16 months).

Steve, as he preferred to be called, always loved the farm and nature, which is what led him to his chosen field in Agriculture. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, which he would have done more of, had he been given the time. As it was, he was dedicated to his work and to his children, with whom he spent as much time with as he was able, especially during the eight months of his illness.

He also had a passion for sports, both watching and playing. The Oilers and Eskimos were always the teams he would root for, despite living closer to Calgary than Edmonton! (He even stooped to watch the Flames play if he happened to get tickets to the game). He always tried to be there to take Kyle to his games as well as coach Kyle’s team. He also played ball and coached Kyle and Taylor’s ball teams.

His affinity to memorize song lyrics amazed most people. Steve was known to be able to sing along to many country songs, as he knew all the words. He would sing along while traveling or at home. His singing voice may not have been as good as his mothers, but he had a passion to sing all the same.

Steve always had a great sense of humor and a personality, which drew people to him. People always felt comfortable around him, as he treated them with respect, yet he was not afraid to say what he thought. His sense of humor never left him, and even when he became so ill, he still had a cheerful and encouraging word for everyone. He was a true and loyal friend to those who knew him.

Steve was predeceased by his father Lionel, Grandma and Grandpa Wylie, and Grandma and Grandpa Williams. It is with great sadness that we lay to rest our beloved Dad, Brother, Son, Uncle and Best Friend.

Until we meet again, we love you Steve.

Donations in honor of Steve may be made to Brooks Health Center – Palliative Care Unit or the charity of one’s choice.
