WINTER – Lena (Lee) Winter, 1929-2007. Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Bethany Care Centre on Monday, January 15, 2007 at the age of 77 years. Lee was born on March 16, 1929, in Carseland, AB. and grew up in the Clancy area. She married Clem Winter in 1948 and moved to Brooks in 1950 where they lived and raised a young family before moving to Calgary in 1963. Two of our mother’s favorite passions were baking and needlepoint. No one could ever resist one of mom’s famous crescents and the needlepoint that adorns our homes will be treasured for many years to come. Our mother’s love and devotion to her family were two of her strongest attributes.

Her strength and determination throughout her battle with cancer was a testament to her devotion to her family. She would not leave her family hastily, without a fight. We admire her courage throughout the many challenges she endured over the past three years and will forever embrace her love and cherish her memory. Lee is survived by her children, Sharron (Ron) Green of Edmonton, AB., Sandy (Dennis) Hegedus of Prince Albert, Sask., Dale (Julie) Winter, Donnell (Ron) Levesque and Myrna (Jerry) Lypka all of Calgary, AB.; as well numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by her remaining siblings, Susan (Carl) Schaal of Portland, OR., Betty Fielding of Calgary, AB., John Kopp of Kamloops, B.C., Aran (Elly) Kopp of Niagara-on-the-lake, ON, Margaret Janzen, Clara (John) Janzen and Hilda (Fred) Glucker all of St. Catharines, ON; and her sisters-in-law, Emily Kopp of Kelowna, B.C. and Alice Thomson of St. Catharines, ON. Lee was predeceased by her infant sister Susie; parents John and Elizabeth Kopp; and brothers, Cornelius, Henry and Walter Kopp. At our mother’s request there is to be no funeral service however, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
