William David Coombs
1922-2009
William (Bill) David Coombs of Ottawa, beloved husband of Judith Mary Coombs, father of Andrew (Deb), Sarah (Nigel), and Tim (Sandy), grandfather of Alexander and Joshua, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the age of 87.
Bill was born in Warner Alberta, on March 16, 1922, the son of Frank and Myrtle Coombs, brother to Alice, Goldie, Ben and Dean.
Bill served in the Canadian Fifth Armored Division Signal Corps in WWII. After the war he earned post-graduate degrees in the field of education. In his professional life he was a talented musician, and dedicated educator. In his private life he was a tireless community volunteer and international humanitarian.
The Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space at Beechwood National Memorial Centre of Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa, on Thursday June 11 at 2:00 PM. In remembrance, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
