Wald – Ted Wald (The Bear) of Brooks, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rosehaven Care Center in Camrose, Alberta on January 15th, 2018 at 84 years old. Alzheimer’s disease slowly took our dear Dad, Grampie, Uncle, Brother and Friend. Ted was a big-hearted man who loved his life and the people in it. As a young man he took over The Blue Hawk Farm from his Dad to do grain and cattle farming and raise a young family. He then moved to oilfield trucking and consulting in Grimshaw, Alberta and later in life to Brooks. Ted enjoyed raising Belgian horses and many varieties of cattle, always taking the night shift during birthing season. A real passion was making harness and he blessed many around him with his leatherwork. Ted also enjoyed leading trail drives, participating in parades with his horse and wagon teams, the chuck wagons, watching sports, reading Louis L’Amour, playing cards, cooking, and being with his grandkids and his dogs. The Bear was always there to lend a hand to family and friends. He was recently pre-deceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan (Evans). Also in memory are his parents Frank and Pearl Wald, his sisters Eleanor Coates and Florence Quinney, and his brothers John, Frank, Dick, Dune, Jack and Herman Wald. Ted was very loving and proud of his three children, Rosalie Wald, Richard Wald (JoAnn), and Donna Drader along with his grandchildren Taylor Wald, Jamie Wald, Hannah Drader and Rocan Drader. His remaining immediate family include his sister Rose Sheehan and brothers Ed, Bud and Hubert Wald and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26th at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooks. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Ted, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, 14925 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta T5M 2P6. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses in Brooks and Camrose and the Rosehaven Care Center in Camrose for providing such tender and compassionate care.
