Rommens – September 09, 1926 – April 16, 2018.  It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Adrian “George” Anthony Rommens, beloved husband, father, grandfather “Opa”, brother, uncle and friend.  George was born in Etten- Leur, Holland and resided there until he married the love of his life on April 20, 1954 and made the adventurous move, immigrating to Canada with his wife Margaret.  They lived and worked on a farm in Bassano, AB. until they ventured out on their own and purchased land in 1962 in Duchess, AB.  George and Margaret put their heart and soul into the farm and built it into a very successful dairy operation until they retired in 1988, although still maintaining an active role on the farm.  George had a tremendous love for family and community.  He loved to converse with others about any topic that was relative at the time, especially engaging in political conversations.  He was an active member of his community and served as a director for the Dinosaur Gas Coop.  George was actively involved with his church and served as a longtime member with the Knights of Columbus.  He also spent many volunteer hours in the construction of the Duchess Golf course.  In retirement he thoroughly enjoyed golfing, curling, and playing cards with his close friends and family.  His grandchildren were a continual source of joy. Opa encouraged and applauded their educational pursuits, their sporting endeavors and treasured precious time together.  The grandchildren were truly a highlight in his life.  George’s strong family values and work ethic exemplified how he lived his life and the family feels blessed to have had such an amazing role model.  George is predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, children, Bill Rommens (Jennifer), Vivian Allen (Ron), Hubert Rommens (Patti), Kathy Petrie (John), Walter Rommens (Jeanette), Debbie Banting (Murray), 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  George is also survived by three brothers, Tony Rommens (Cora), Bert Rommens (Wilma), Gerard Rommens (Riet), sister Wilma Rommens, sisters-in-law, Netty Rommens and Corrie Rommens, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  The family is deeply indebted to the loving care provided by Maricon Buenafe as well as the staff at Sunrise Gardens.  Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, April 24 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Rev. Raul Hernandez Celebrant. Interment at Brooks Cemetery.  In memory of George, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Brooks and District Health Foundation for Kidney Dialysis Machine, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3.
