    KASTAN – Christopher Kastan of Brooks passed away at Foothills Medical Centre on December 20, 2017 at the age of 60 years. Chris was born at Toronto on Jan 8, 1957 to Clement (deceased 1969) and Lavina (deceased 1990). He attended junior and senior high school in Courtenay, B.C. and enjoyed playing basketball. He joined the Armed Forces (1976-1979) following in the footsteps of his mother and his uncles. Chris was adventurous and served in the 5th Airborne. He spent some time in Europe and joined the Navy in 1980 sailing all around the world. He brought back memorabilia from Hong Kong, Peru, New Zealand, Hawaii, with his last posting being in Victoria, B.C., on the Oriole. Chris then got a release from the Navy in 1990 and pursued his interest in History; studying at the University of Victoria. He was a strong man, an avid reader with an enquiring mind, a kind heart and a sense of humour. Chris moved to Brooks, Ab in 1998 where he worked at JBS for 19 years but collapsed while at work on Dec 18th, from a heart attack, passing away on Dec 20th in Calgary. He will be remembered by his sister Laura and her husband Pat Childs of Brooks, 4 nephews, one niece and their families. Chris was a caring man and left a final gift of organ donation….he will be missed. No formal services will be held although in memory of Chris, if family or friend’s desire, memorial tributes may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or a charity of choice.
