    Kam – Helen Mary Louise Kam of Brooks, beloved wife of Joe Kam, passed away in Brooks on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 at the age of 76 years. Her life began on April 19th, 1941 in Shaunavon, SK. born the oldest of 6 children: Ida Hagg, Omer Charest, Gladys Harty, Valerie Haag and Pauly Holst. Helen attended the University of Calgary and acquired her Teachers Certificate in 1960. Helen’s love affair with Joe began when he spotted her in Bowman’s Cafe and they knew immediately that they would be wed. The marriage took place June 9th, 1962 in Rolling Hills, AB. Joe and Helen eventually settled in Brooks in 1973, where they raised their 3 children Jackie DeBlasio, Richard Kam and Laurie Anne Miller. Helen had a strong love of business, gardening and was a talented seamstress. She was always available to support others in need. Her smile and laughter will sadly be missed by her family, friends and the community in which she called home. Helen was known for her love of family, travel and dancing and was predeceased by her parents Fernand and Laurencia Charest. Helen is survived by her loving family, husband Joe of Brooks; their daughter Jackie DeBlasio and her husband Gord and their children Rocco and Dana all of Brooks, son Richard and his wife Brenda and their children Jordan and Jenna all of Brooks and daughter Laurie Anne Miller and her husband Rod and their children Sophie and Chloe all of Calgary; siblings, Ida and Roy Hagg of Brooks, Omer and Bev Charest of Brooks, Gladys and Richard Harty of Medicine Hat, Val and Monfred Haag of Rainier, and Pauly and Henry Holst of Lethbridge and numerous other family members. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 at 2:30 PM. Rev. Raul Hernandez Celebrant. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. Funeral luncheon to follow at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. In memory of Helen, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Charity of Choice.
