JANS – Linda Jans of Brooks (formerly of Irvine), passed away in Brooks on May 14, 2018 at the age of 94. Linda was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1951 settling in Medicine Hat where she met Jacob Jans at the German Church of God and they were married there on June 14, 1952. They lived most of their lives south east of Medicine Hat near Irvine on a farm where she enjoyed her large garden, pickling the things she grew (and nearly anything else she felt could be pickled) and was very active with all aspects of the farm operation. Linda enjoyed animals but especially loved her chickens. She moved to Edmonton in 1987 to be near her siblings and their families and enjoyed their company for 25 years. In 2013, she decided to make Brooks her home to be closer to her immediate family. She spent spare time doing crocheting, knitting, word games and reading Christian novels. Linda enjoyed learning and was very interested in royalty and reading about Russian history. She appreciated moments listening to music and loved the guitar. She enjoyed singing and was involved with various choirs and trios in the church over the years. Considering Linda’s first language was Book German, she attained an outstanding comprehension of the English language. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed visiting and playing games with her grandchildren. Linda loved knitting and until her health failed recently, she kept busy knitting scarves for those in need. She was a wonderful cook and loved serving potatoes; baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, and any other combination of potato recipe available. She will be remembered for her delicious yeast dumplings fried in cream and for making many traditional recipes such as Kuchen. Linda was predeceased by her husband Jacob in 1981 and brother Artur. She is survived by her 2 daughters Ruth Good and her husband Vernon of Parksville, B.C. and their 2 sons, Sean, Ryan (Kellie) and baby Saoirse and daughter Edith Fox and her husband Daryle of Brooks and their daughter Jody Dueck (Darsen) and their children Jalen and Taren of Brooks; 1 brother Heinrich and his wife Else; 1 sister Valentine Tovstiga and her husband Art and sister-in-law Herta, all of Edmonton. In memory of Linda if family or friend’s desire, memorial tributes may be made to Gideon Bible at http://www.gideons.ca/donate/. Funeral Services were held at Thom’s Funeral Home and Reception Centre on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 2 PM, Pastor Daryle Fox officiating. Family graveside service was held on May 18 at Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat.
