Goodheart – Leonard Keith Goodheart of Brooks, beloved husband of the late Mary Goodheart, passed away in Brooks on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Leonard was born in Bracken, Saskatchewan on August 16th, 1929 to Joseph and Gladys Goodheart. Leonard, along with his family, moved to Rolling Hills in 1940, to be a part of the new irrigation project. After completing a motor mechanics course at S.A.I.T in Calgary, Leonard returned to the farm. He met a young teacher named Mary Carstairs and they were married in 1954 and resided in Rolling Hills. Leonard would always say that they had “59 good years together” and was very proud of her accomplishments! He operated a cattle and grain farm and enjoyed being part of a small, close-knit community, it was a great place to raise his family. He played baseball in his younger years and enjoyed woodworking, when time permitted. Leonard and Mary were able to travel quite a bit after retiring to Brooks in 1999, and were always happy to be on a bus tour heading somewhere. Leonard was very proud of his grandkids and was always teasing them about something, this was his special way of showing affection for them! He moved to the Newbrook Lodge, Brooks, after Mary’s passing in 2013. Leonard loved the people and the staff there very much and he always raved about the food! After his health declined, he made the trip over to Sunrise Gardens, Brooks. Leonard again was impressed with the care and compassion given to him and claimed his room had the best view of the outside world. We the family, cannot thank all of the people enough, who made his last years so enjoyable and comfortable. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Mary and parents Joe and Gladys. Leonard leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Keith Goodheart and his wife Lucie and their children, Tyler (Jill) and Kayla; son, Dave Goodheart and his wife Francine and their children Courtney (Eddie), and Camille and son, Gerald Goodheart; great-grandchildren, Harper, Olive, Kyra and Daxson; sisters, Joyce Veale and June Wiersma; brother Merlin; brother- in- law Jack Carstairs and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of us!
