Flatla – Mabel Alvina Flatla of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Peder Flatla, passed away in Brooks on Monday, May 14th, 2018 at the age of 101 years. Mabel was born in Alderson, Alberta on June 6th, 1916 to Hans and Inga Wester. She moved to Tilley with her family when she was 6 years old and attended Renfrew School, which was located 2 miles from her parent’s home. Mabel married Peder Flatla on February 20th, 1935 and they farmed near Tilley, until their retirement in 1971, when they moved to Brooks. She worked at the Brooks Hospital cleaning instruments, but her family would say her most important job was that of wife and mother. Mabel enjoyed crocheting afghans and doilies, loved playing cribbage and playing the piano. She was a member of both the Bethany Lutheran Ladies Group and Tilley Community Ladies Group. Mabel will be fondly remembered for her kindness, sense of humor and for always being thankful to those who helped her in her time of need. She was predeceased by her loving husband Peder Flatla, son Hans Flatla, grandson Darold Flatla, sister Evelyn Flatla, brother-in-law Lars and son-in-law Gordon Skriver. Mabel is survived by her loving family; children, Alice Skiver, Raymond Flatla and his wife Audrey, Glenda Anthony and her husband Lawrence; grandchildren, Patricia Flatla, Linda McFetridge and her husband Tim, Keith Flatla and his wife Karen, Kathy Skanderup and her husband Merlin, Doug Skriver, Greg Skriver and his wife Leona, Randy Flatla and his wife Corry, Lorenda Jahoda and her husband George, Jason Flatla and his wife Karri, David Flatla and his wife Amanda, Caralei Varoney, Cory Einarson and his wife Jennifer and Craig Einarson; daughter-in-law Mariel Flatla; 31 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25th at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. John Theiss officiating. In memory of Mabel, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice.
