Dahl – Freda Marion Dahl (Olsen) Our much loved mother passed away at her home in Brooks on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 88. Mom was born on June 14, 1929 in Hanna, Alberta to Elmer and Nellie Olsen. She lived her life in Hanna except for the last 8 years, when she moved to Brooks to be closer to her family. On June 11, 1949 she married the love of her life James Harvey Dahl. In the early years of their marriage, they traveled and lived in a small trailer in towns throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta, while dad worked for Cambridge Drilling, where they made many friends with young families that were doing the same. When it was time for Sheila to go to school, they moved back to Hanna and settled on the family farm. They lived on the farm, until Dad’s passing, on February 3, 1991. Mom then moved into Hanna and lived there until moving to Brooks. They loved the farm life – although it was hard at times it was their choice to live and raise the family there. Mom cooked and gardened and was just content with Dad and us kids. First and foremost mom was a devoted wife and mother. Always up for fun and we have all inherited her infectious laugh. We have so many great memories of our youth with family and friends on the farm. Mom also did a lot of knitting and quilting in her younger years, and later crosswords, reading, and her love of baseball (go Blue Jays) and curling. We will miss her so much. Also predeceasing Mom were 2 of her precious grandchildren Tyler Dahl and Jamie Dahl Olivier; parents Elmer and Nellie; in-laws Martin and Anne; sister Nancy Rutt and brothers Morris and Desmond Olsen. Mom leaves behind to cherish her memory, 3 children Sheila McMullan (Kurt), Brenda Frances (John) and Tim Dahl (Donna); 6 grandchildren Judy Hubert (Kevin), Jackie Frances, Kristina McMullan, Angie Graves (Dave) Jenn Arthur (Jeff) and Ethan Frances (Savannah); 8 great grandchildren – Josh Hubert, Jamie Hubert (Glen), Nolan and Caitlin Graves and Gabby, Emmy and Zakk Olivier; 1 great great grandson Carter Benson and also close to her heart are Linsey, Karter and Aliya. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, 240 – 1st Street West, Brooks, Alberta. Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Luncheon and visitation to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Dining Room at 235 – 3rd Street West, Brooks. Interment at Hanna Cemetery.
