    Christensen – Gladys Mary Christensen of Brooks, passed away in Medicine Hat, AB. on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Gladys was born in Bassano, Alberta on March 16th, 1930 and lived at Southesk and Cassils, before moving to Duchess in May 1932 with her parents Daniel and Mary Vescarelli. She attended school there and also worked at Plew’s Garage and Bell’s store. Gladys married Glenn Calvin (Cal) Christensen on March 16th 1949 and moved to Brooks in the same year. In Brooks, she was employed at Nurkies Soda Bar, Vanity Mode (Ladies’ Wear), Carol’s Fashions and Ellik’s Jewellery and later at the Brooks Bulletin from 1969, until retiring in May 2000. She was predeceased by her husband Cal; parents Dan and Mary Vescarelli; two sisters, Margaret Vescarelli and Mildred Scarrow; brother-in-laws, Robert (Bud) Trimmer, Harold Scarrow, Lloyd Steinback and Hal Nelson. Surviving are her beloved family, daughter Valerie (Wayne) Friskie of Sidney, B.C. and son, Gary (Maxine) Christensen of Redcliff, AB.; four grandchildren, Kari (Stacey) Sanders of Sedgewick, AB., Kevin Friskie of Calgary AB., Jessica and Michael Christensen of Redcliff; three great grandchildren, Kyle and Ali Sanders and Kira Friskie; also sisters Dorothy Trimmer of Brooks, Ellen Nelson of High River, AB. and Clara Steinback of Whitecourt, AB. and Donna (John) Ferguson of Magrath, AB.; brother Danny (Coralee) Vescarelli of Calgary; sister-in-law, Sally Scarrow of Red Deer and numerous Christensen, Brodie and Edwards relatives. As per Gladys’ request there will be no public service to be held. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Gladys, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to either STARS, Suite 100, 1519 – 35th Avenue East, Edmonton International Airport   T9E 0V6 or Brooks Health Centre, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3.
