Berg – Darwin Donald Berg was born on April 3, 1962 and passed away March 31, 2018 at the age of 55.  He was the second child in a large family, and spent his childhood riding horses, participating in sports and 4H, and helping with the many chores around the ranch.  He and his younger sister Joanne kept their mother on her toes by getting into all kinds of creative mischief, which contributed to a lot stories and family laughter in the years that followed.  Darwin stayed on the ranch, and worked closely with his father, Don Berg, until Don could no longer work on the ranch because of age-related health issues.  Darwin enjoyed ranching, and knew the cattle herd so well that Don Berg often told his other children that he viewed Darwin as having the best memory of anyone in the family – he could literally recite the detailed history of every single animal in the herd.  Darwin married Doreen Cozac, and had two children, Taylor and Gina.   They had many happy years together as a family, often attending rodeos where Darwin would sometimes participate in team-roping events.  Darwin was incredibly proud of Taylor and Gina, and viewed them as his greatest life accomplishment.  Everyone who knew him heard him talk about how lucky he was to have such good kids, and he talked frequently about Gina’s barrel racing, Taylor’s hockey, and their success in school.  In addition to his family, Darwin is survived by his mother, Mary Berg, his siblings, Carolyn Berg, Joanne Schenkelberg, Laura-Marie Berg, Dale Berg, and Cindy Berg, their respective spouses, as well nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the many family members and people in the community who have rallied to help at this very difficult time.  Your extraordinary kindness and support will always be remembered and appreciated.  Funeral services were held on Monday, April 9 at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church.  Rev. John Theiss officiated.  In memory of Darwin, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Brooks Mental Health, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3.
