Bentz – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Louise Bentz of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Ed Bentz, on Wednesday, November 28th, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Bertha was born in Lac Vert, Saskatchewan on May 1st, 1929 to Ole and Minda Borge. She married Ed Bentz on September 1st, 1952 and called Brooks her home for over 66 years. Bertha worked at Ingram’s Department Store, Central Drugs, and the Newell Associate Clinic. Many Brooks residents will remember Bertha at the front desk of the Medical Clinic for many years. Bertha and Ed enjoyed camping and fishing. Spending countless hours around the campfire at Lake Newell and Blood Indian while enjoying the company of family and friends. Their house was always open to relatives and friends from near and far. Everyone just seemed to congregate there and most summer evenings were spent outside in Bertha’s beautiful yard. Many hands of cards were dealt around Bertha and Ed’s table. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and took great pride in her purple outfit and red hat. Bertha liked to shop and was always up for a trip to the Medicine Hat Mall, never objecting to a quick stop at the casino on the way home. After Ed’s death, Bertha downsized and moved to an apartment and later Villa 4. She enjoyed Villa 4 and the company of the other women who lived there. Bertha then decided that she was tired of cooking, and she moved into the Newbrook Lodge, where she resided until recently. Her quick wit, sense of humour and mischievous grin will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ed; daughter Vicki; parents Ole and Mind Borges; sisters, Elly Whewell and her husband Carl, Guvnor Cheyne and her husband Bill, Milly Henderson and her husband Ed and Signe Needham; brothers, Myer Pederson and Melvin Borges and special nephew Jim Needham. Bertha is survived by great niece, Tracy O’Hara and her sons Spencer, CJ and Bryce all of Duchess; great nephew, Kelly Needham of Olds, Alberta; nieces and nephews, Anna Pederson, Tracey, Don and Zoe Payne of the United Kingdom; Chris Bingham, Kay, Vic, Alice and Ella Ankersmit of New Zealand; Gary Bingham, Melanie Henderson, Keith and Wendy Cheyne and Chris Pantlin of British Columbia; Gordon Albrecht of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Debbie Hawkins of Airdrie, Alberta along with numerous other family members spanning 4 generations. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
